Marlborough approves one board appointment, mural installation and schedules executive session on town manager contract

A separate motion to appoint John Batista as a Board of Finance alternate did not move forward; the board instead voted to table that appointment and invite Mr. Batista to a future meeting to introduce himself.
Rolando Ghirlanda, representing the Marlborough Preservation Society, presented photos of the proposed Ofshay mural. The board approved installation of an 8-by-24 mural at Town Hall on the condition that a location plan be submitted for review and approval by the Town Manager and Public Works.
On contract matters, Mr. Rizza moved to provide the required 120-day notice to the Town Manager for contract negotiations; the motion carried. Ms. McFarland moved to hold a special meeting/executive session on April 14, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the Town Manager contract; that motion carried with one recorded no vote. Meeting minutes note that Mr. Porter will not be able to attend the April 14 executive session.
What happens next: Mr. Batista will be invited to introduce himself at an upcoming meeting; the mural installation requires submission of a placement plan and Public Works review; and the board will hold a special executive session on April 14 for contract discussions.
