Neighbors raised concerns during public comment: Kati Lai said she had been in correspondence with the applicant and owner regarding privacy concerns and reported positive engagement; Diane Torres said she was concerned about on-site parking and use of the public right of way.
Board members questioned the project’s overall height and street presence, asked about screening and tree choices, and noted that the largest second-floor cantilever measures about 30 inches. During deliberations, a motion to approve the item failed on a roll-call vote with Commissioners Gill and Maddalena voting yes and Commissioners McCall, Neidig and Chair Filer voting no.
After reopening the item for further discussion of massing, Board member Breigh McCall moved to continue the item to allow the applicant to revise massing and reduce visual prominence; the motion, seconded by Yuvi Gill, passed unanimously.
The continuation requires the applicant to return with revised massing, clearer screening strategies and updated visual materials that more accurately reflect on-site perspectives.
