Mayor Denton Kooyman nominated Vivian Stone, a long-serving Board of Public Works member, to fill the Ward I council vacancy for a one-year term at the Malden City Council meeting May 18. Council Member Jenkins moved the appointment and Council Member Grant seconded; the council approved the nomination unanimously, 7-0.
Stone was not present at the meeting; City Clerk Jessie Cobb will administer her oath at an upcoming session. Kooyman noted that Stone’s move onto the council creates a vacancy on the Board of Public Works. The council also approved the mayor’s slate of board and commission nominations by unanimous vote and the mayor said three vacancies remain on the Park Board.
No additional votes or suspense items related to the appointments were recorded; the council directed standard follow-up administrative steps for swearing in and filling the BPW vacancy.
