Board approves MOAs for interpreters, therapists and a vocational rehab pilot

The board approved memoranda of agreement securing ASL interpreters, speech and physical therapy coverage and a pilot vocational rehabilitation/community work transition program for students with IEPs or 504 plans aged 16 and older.
At its meeting the Clark County Board of Education approved a series of memoranda of agreement intended to maintain services used by students with individualized needs and to pilot a vocational transition program.
Staff explained the MOA with an interpreting services provider is intended to ensure continuity if the district’s full-time ASL interpreter is unavailable. The board also approved MOAs for a speech-language pathologist (Karen Hadley), a part-time physical therapist (Lori Howard Jones) and orientation and mobility services for students with visual impairments.
On workforce transition, staff described an agreement with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to pilot a community work transition program at GRC. The program targets students with IEPs or 504 plans aged 16 and older and focuses on pre-employment skills such as interview practice, job shadowing and on-the-job training; staff said the MOA creates a path to additional vocational funding if the pilot is successful.
Board members voted to approve the presented MOAs; related motions passed unanimously.
