Board approves schematic design and contracts for RDC/Baker renovations and athletic field upgrades

The Clark County Board of Education moved forward on a package of construction items that advance ongoing renovations at Robert D. Campbell (RDC) and Baker as well as athletic field upgrades at RDC and GRC.
Project staff presented schematic designs for the RDC baseball and softball renovations (BG26108), which include turf infields, low-contrast striping (green and terracotta color schemes), new electrical service at the pitching mound for pitching machines, subfield drainage daylighting, relocation of an infield water line and new backstop netting; lighting replacement was offered as an alternate. The board voted to approve the schematic design so design development can proceed.
On procurement, staff recommended — and the board approved — special-inspection and geotechnical proposals from Solid Ground to perform compaction, concrete testing and subsurface borings necessary before turf installation. The board also approved pay estimates to Kodell Construction for athletic and roof renovation work and an invoice to the project architect for ongoing design services.
A change order for Somerset Mechanical (roughly $7,666) was approved to add base rails underneath specified mechanical units to reduce vibration and noise; project staff described the addition as a value-add to protect interior finishes and occupant comfort. Staff also briefed the board on equipment lead times (unit ventilators) and schedule risk; shipments were scheduled in early July and contractors are prepared to augment crews if units arrive late.
All construction motions brought forward during the meeting passed by the board with unanimous votes.
