County approves summer youth employment funding, youth-development grants and schedules public hearing for CDBG

Franklin County accepted $118,447 in Summer Youth Employment funding and contracted $26,000 to Catholic Charities to run Project SEEK; it allocated $47,913 to local youth programs and set a July 6 public hearing on Community Development Block Grant needs.
The Franklin County Legislature authorized multiple allocations to support youth employment and community programs.
The Commissioner of Social Services reported receipt of a $118,447 Summer Youth Employment allocation (June 1–Sept. 30, 2017), 100% reimbursable. The county will retain $92,447 for wages and fringe for participating youths and contract $26,000 to Catholic Charities of Franklin County to administer Project SEEK, the county's Summer Employment Experience for Kids program. The appropriation was approved unanimously.
The Legislature also allocated $47,913 in Youth Development Money to a range of local programs and participants (including Saranac Lake Youth Center, Bangor Community Center, local town day-camp and sports organizations). Resolution No. 150 amended a prior 2016 allocation to reassign small unused amounts.
The Economic Development director set a public hearing for July 6, 2017 at 11:15 A.M. on Franklin County's community development needs and potential CDBG application(s) for the 2017 program year. Motions were adopted unanimously. Department staff were authorized to execute contracts and program administration as recorded in the minutes.
