Middleton staff updated the council on the city’s bio-solids removal from the wastewater lagoon and sought authorization for a contract change order to cover unforeseen hauling costs.
Public Works Director Jason Van Gilder reported that the contractor doing dewatering and hauling has performed well but that landfill acceptance limits forced interruptions and additional trucking. The city has pursued alternate disposal (a private Sawtooth landfill) and has had to add trucks and adjust daily hauling windows; those operational adjustments increased the contractor’s unit hauling costs.
Van Gilder said staff and the construction manager have reviewed the proposed change order and recommend authorizing it. "All that is wrapped up into a change order," he said, adding that staff had not finalized the exact dollar amount because hauling totals will be multiplied by unit prices as the job proceeds. Council voted unanimously to authorize the mayor to execute Change Order No. 2 with Merryill Brothers Incorporated to increase hauling unit prices necessary to address unforeseen bio-solids disposal conditions.
