Summary

City Attorney Andy Carothers told the Wymore City Council on Sept. 18 that he and staff met with Tiemann's to evaluate the Gambles building and concluded the structure would require too many man-hours to clean out for clean-and-demolition hauling. As a result, the city is considering demolition rather than salvage and removal.
A city staff member identified in the meeting as Tim said he has received three bids for demolition of the property at 518 N. 11th Street and that he would reach out to bidders for a project timeline. Councilmembers agreed staff should include backfill of the lot as part of the work to help reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Resident Lori Novotny raised a separate concern about a downtown property owned by Adam Cook, reporting that a panel over a door had been temporarily removed over the weekend and then put back in place. No formal action on that specific downtown property was taken at the meeting.
Next steps: Staff will collect demolition timelines and cost information, and will return to the council with recommendations and any contract documents; NDEE contract paperwork related to demolition funding had not been received as of the meeting date, though Mayor Collin Meints had received an electronic document for the release of funds.
