Wymore council approves senior-service match, several repair contracts and routine business

The Wymore City Council convened Aug. 21 and approved routine minutes and financial reports, authorized several maintenance contracts, and voted to provide $1,320 in matching funds to the Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging.
Mayor Collin Meints presided over the meeting, attended by council members Max Allen, Sue Sapp, Curt Oblinger and Neil Van Boening and City Attorney Andy Carothers. The council approved the minutes and treasurer’s report and handled claims and payroll. A motion to approve a single check (check #28720) carried 3-0 with Council Member Curt Oblinger recorded as abstaining.
In operational business, the council accepted Lauby’s plumbing bid for a new bathroom at Arbor State Park and approved a Sargent Drilling quote for repairs to well 9. Both motions were moved by Max Allen and seconded by Sue Sapp and carried unanimously. The council also allowed the Church of Christ to host a bonfire behind the old icehouse at Arbor State Park provided the fire department issues a burn permit.
Public works staff member Tim Sedlacek told the council that the shallow side of the municipal swimming pool is losing about 6,000 gallons per day and that the main pool pump will require repair; he urged the council to proceed because costs are expected to be substantial. The council accepted the well-repair quote from Sargent Drilling to address water infrastructure needs.
The meeting included a law-enforcement update: Sheriff Gustafson presented a two-month call log compiled after Chief Martinez left the Wymore Police Department and described services the sheriff’s office is providing including business checks and the school resource officer. Council members thanked the sheriff for the services and discussed the option of requesting an annual report.
City Attorney Andy Carothers updated the council on the dilapidated Gambles Building downtown and said he will contact property owners to clarify how much removal remains and whether material will need landfill disposal. Carothers also reported the Planning & Zoning Committee made a non-binding recommendation to vacate portions of 18th Street (E–F) and F Street (17th–18th) and that the city will need to secure easements before any final action.
The meeting ended after a motion to adjourn by Council Member Sue Sapp; the session recessed at 8:17 p.m.
