The Wymore City Council on Sept. 18 adopted the city's 2024'25 budget and approved Resolution No. 2024-02 setting the property tax request for the coming year. Mayor Collin Meints presided over the meeting, which included a unanimous vote to adopt the budget and resolution.
Under Resolution No. 2024-02 the city set the General Fund request at $146,213.24 and the Bond Fund at $227,006.00. The council recorded that the city's total assessed value of property changed by 2.37 percent from last year; the tax rate that would levy the same dollar amount as last year against the new assessed value is 0.835793 per $100 of assessed value. The city proposes adopting a property tax request that yields a rate of 0.852503 per $100 of assessed value. The resolution also notes the total operating budget will change by -9.15 percent from last year.
The council voted to certify and forward a copy of the resolution to the County Clerk on or before Oct. 15, 2024, as required by state law. City Attorney Andy Carothers advised the council it could not approve an additional 1% tax authority at this meeting because the budget had already been approved; councilmembers who want that authority must include it while preparing next year's budget.
