Council tables proposed changes to police chief compensation package

Bryan Davidson, chair of the Police Department Advisory Committee, told the Wymore City Council on Oct. 2 that the city should consider changing the police chief compensation package to allow the transfer of accrued vacation and sick leave from an applicant’s previous position and to include a utilities allowance if the chief lives inside city limits.
Davidson said he has received two inquiries about the position but no completed applications, and that officers he spoke with were concerned about losing accumulated vacation and sick leave if they started a new job. Councilors discussed the idea and asked for more research. The council decided to table the proposal and place it on a future agenda for consideration across all city positions.
No formal change to the compensation policy was adopted at the meeting; the city will research implications and return the item for further action.
