Wymore council approves street closure, advances workforce-housing application and other routine business

Wymore — The Wymore City Council met Oct. 16 in the Council Chambers and approved several routine and community items, including a street closure for the Kiwanis Spooktacular, authorization to pursue a workforce-housing grant application and an amendment to the police chief job posting.
Council President Sue Sapp called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. Councilman Max Allen led multiple consent motions: the previous meeting’s minutes and the treasurer’s report were approved unanimously; payroll and claims passed in two votes, with check #28960 approved in a separate vote that recorded one abstention by Curt Oblinger.
The council voted 4-0 to close G Street from Highway 77 east to 13th, 13th from G north to H, and H west to Highway 77 on Oct. 27 from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to accommodate the Spooktacular setup and takedown. The motion was made by Councilman Max Allen and seconded by Councilman Curt Oblinger; Councilman Neil Van Boening requested the closure on behalf of the Southern Gage Kiwanis Club.
City Superintendent Tim Sedlacek told the council he is awaiting results on a Grid Grant and recommended applying to the SENDD Rural Workforce Housing Fund for a property at 15th and E to develop a workforce home. The council approved moving forward with that application by motion of Neil Van Boening, seconded by Max Allen; the motion carried 4-0.
During personnel business, a proposal to suspend the three readings of Ordinance 680 was retracted after Councilman Neil Van Boening asked for more time to review the ordinance. Max Allen then moved, with Curt Oblinger seconding, to read Ordinance 680 for the first time; the transcript records the motion but does not record the vote result.
Bryan Davidson, chairman of the Police Department Advisory Committee, requested changes to the police chief posting. The council voted 4-0 to add 80 hours of sick and vacation leave after a six‑month probation period to the position posting.
Other items discussed included a proposal to re-codify the city ordinance book (Carothers will request a quote from Nebraska Legal), repairs and a possible Thomas Foundation grant application for the Community Center parking lot, and a report on a fire-truck change order where the vendor offered to waive an invoice pending written confirmation.
The meeting adjourned at 9:21 p.m.
