At its June 17 meeting, the Policy and Academics Committee approved a set of administrative and financial items and forwarded two items to the full school board.
The committee approved updates to the district's expense-reimbursement policy (D, J, D) that adjust approvers because of central‑office reorganization and raise certain limits: baggage fees would be capped at $100 round trip (up from $50), out‑of‑parish per diem would rise from $15 to $20, and out‑of‑state per diem would increase from $20 to $25 to align with comparable state reimbursement rates.
The committee also approved a new general‑fund reserve policy (DCBA) drafted to follow Government Finance Officers Association best practices. The policy sets a minimum reserve equal to 17% of general‑fund expenditures plus $15 million; based on the 2025 audit the presenters said that would equate to approximately $39,312,770 given last year’s general-fund expenditures of about $143 million.
Other approvals included a revised job description for the transportation dispatcher position and a motion to bring a previously tabled waiver request related to school-proximity/business operations (the item cited section 4‑45‑2E governing the ordinance) back to the full board; supporters said the business would operate as a drive‑thru, not a bar, and would open after school hours. The committee also forwarded the proposed revision to student technology policy (JCDAE) to the full board for consideration at the July 20 meeting.
All items listed above passed by committee voice votes. Each forwarded item will be considered by the full Lafourche Parish School Board at the dates noted by presenters.
