Committee approves $108,574 change order to cover remobilization for stadium repairs

The Lafourche Parish Land and Facilities Management Committee approved a $108,574.18 change order and an additional 93 days on the Lafourche Parish School District Stadium Repair Project at its June 17 meeting, citing contractor remobilization costs after staff paused work to preserve home‑game access.

John Cheramie, reporting for Babin Engineers, told the committee the change order covers the contractor's costs to demobilize and remobilize crews after the project was paused so that home sides would be available for football season. Cheramie said the pause was a deliberate decision made to avoid shutting visitor sides for the entire season and that remobilization and related general conditions drove the additional cost.

Committee members discussed safety and phasing. Staff said engineering oversight has deemed current, completed areas safe for use and that remaining work is preventive to extend the structures' useful life. Cheramie and other project staff noted South Lafourche Stadium showed the greatest concrete spalling and corrosion compared with Central Lafourche and Thibodaux, and that the contractor planned to move resources between sites as each phase finished.

The committee voted to accept the change order by voice vote; the transcript records the motion (mover: Ms. Babin; second: Mrs. Bourgeois) and the chair announced "Motion carries." The approved change order also added 93 calendar days to the project schedule.

Next steps include contractor remobilization under existing contract supervision and continued structural inspections during work. Project staff said they will continue to provide schedule updates to the committee and to report any additional cost impacts as they are identified.
