The Mount Vernon City Council on Monday approved the payment of $1,362,912.61 in consolidated vouchers and authorized city staff to seek design‑build proposals to replace a chemical storage building at the wastewater treatment plant.
City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel asked the council to permit staff to request design‑build proposals for a replacement storage building used for chemical storage, saying the current structure has become dangerous and needs replacement. Bechtel told the council the project will exceed $25,000 but is expected to cost less than $50,000. Council Member Joe Gliosci moved to grant permission; Council Member Donte Moore seconded and the motion carried with four votes in favor and one member absent.
Earlier in the meeting, Council Member Donte Moore moved to approve the journal for the Dec. 16, 2024 Regular City Council meeting; Council Member Joe Gliosci seconded the motion, which passed by the same 4–0 margin with Council Member Ray Botch absent. Moore later moved to approve the Consolidated Vouchers for Accounts Payable in the amount of $1,362,912.61; Council Member Mike Young seconded and the motion passed 4–0.
Mayor John Lewis used the brief meeting to thank volunteers and organizations that helped operate a warming center at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building and to recognize the work of first responders, Public Works and Fire Department personnel who have been responding to several recent fires. Council members echoed those thanks. The meeting recorded no public comments and no executive session.
Council Member Joe Gliosci moved to adjourn; Council Member Donte Moore seconded and the meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m. The council did not take further action at the meeting.
