Mount Vernon council approves $1.8M in vouchers, awards $143,000 manhole contract

At its Nov. 18 meeting the Mount Vernon City Council unanimously approved Consolidated Vouchers for Accounts Payable totaling $1,798,224.04 and voted to accept bid results for manhole construction under the US EPA Community Grant Project Area.
Council Member Joe Gliosci moved to approve the consolidated vouchers; the motion carried with Yeas from Council Members Ray Botch, Joe Gliosci, Donte Moore, Mike Young and Mayor John Lewis. City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel presented bid results showing six bidders; Groundworks Construction of Breese, Illinois was the low bidder at $143,000. Council Member Ray Botch moved to accept the bid award to Groundworks Construction, and the council approved the recommendation unanimously.
Bechtel also presented a street-closure request for Nov. 28, 2024 for Central Christian Church’s Thanksgiving Community Meal and preliminary and final plats for Heavens Gate and Price’s subdivisions; all were approved by motion of the council.
The voucher approval covers the city’s current payables as presented to the council; the manhole contract is funded through the noted EPA community grant project. Council actions were routine and passed without dissent. The meeting adjourned at 8:26 p.m.
