North Haledon reorganizes: mayor touts grants, infrastructure work and confirms appointments and contracts

Mayor Randy George used the Borough of North Haledon’s Jan. 3 reorganization meeting to review 2021 accomplishments, outline 2022 priorities and present the Mayor’s slate of appointments and professional contracts for council concurrence.
“I congratulate Councilpersons Donna Puglisi, George Pomianek on their re‑election and Vince Parmese on his election,” Mayor George said, praising collaboration with police and planning officials and citing public‑safety and infrastructure work. He noted the borough received $199,000 in Passaic County grants to install a rubberized surface at Leyden’s Playground, oversaw tennis‑court resurfacing and partial installation of pickleball courts, and secured a $521,000 New Jersey DOT grant that offset more than $1 million in road rehabilitation.
The mayor reported that the borough took delivery of a new fire apparatus, that a decade‑long lawsuit regarding a former Belmont Avenue firehouse was dismissed by a judge, and that the council has begun discussing renovating that building to house the police department. He also announced that the Paterson Fire Department will now provide ambulance service after the North Haledon Volunteer Ambulance Squad closed because of lack of members; the mayor said shared services with Paterson has required no additional cost to residents and produced only one complaint in recent years.
Council named Bruce O. Iacobelli President of the Board of Council for 2022 on a unanimous roll call. The council also concurred with the mayor’s appointments to professional and administrative posts. Notable confirmations included Borough Attorney Michael P. De Marco; Borough Engineer Stephen T. Boswell (contract NTE $92,000); Borough Auditor Wielkotz & Co. (NTE $55,000); Borough Planner Kauker & Kauker for planning work (NTE $10,000) and a master‑plan update (NTE $15,000); and financial services from Battaglia Associates (NTE $36,000).
In infrastructure and maintenance approvals, the council awarded a contract for licensed pumping‑station operation to DeBlock Environmental Services (NTE $36,000) and approved wet‑well and sewer maintenance with All American Sewer Service (proprietary exception; NTE $36,600). The council also accepted proposals for IT and Right‑to‑Know services and named Piazza & Associates as affordable housing administrator (NTE $15,000).
All consent‑agenda and contract votes carried unanimously. The meeting closed after additional committee and emergency‑management appointments were confirmed and the council set North Haledon Day for Sept. 24, 2022.
