Mayor praises firefighters; county emergency services' drone used to check hotspots

The mayor commended the city's firefighters and mutual-aid partners after a recent fire, saying units were on scene within two minutes but the location and complexity of the blaze required additional manpower and coordination.
He singled out Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services for deploying a drone that provided thermal imaging to identify hotspots. "They used their drone and did a fly over basically the entire time we were fighting the fire ... the thermal imaging ... I was able to watch that and then give information to the chief so he would know about hotspots," the mayor said.
Council members asked whether the drone had been used previously in city fires. A council participant said they believed this was the first time they had heard of drone use in that capacity. The mayor reiterated gratitude to the fire department and said the city will provide resources and information to help displaced residents and businesses recover.
