Lebanon City outlines 250th events: time capsule unearthing, July 2 Declaration rededication, expanded July 4 celebration

"We would read the instructions from the city's bicentennial committee regarding the time capsule ... and after those instructions then the council chair would talk about the principles," the mayor said, adding that the historical society will be invited to discuss the Declaration's local history. The mayor said the full reading is about 15 minutes and suggested dividing the text among council members who plan to attend.
The mayor also previewed a larger July 4 program (rain date July 5) with period costumes and expanded fireworks, and said the Big Boy steam-train will arrive July 7 (expected 12:35–1:20). He announced an essay contest titled "A Letter to the Future," with age categories and winners' essays to be sealed in the time capsule for opening in 2076.
The mayor said the special meeting will be advertised as public and posted on Facebook. No formal action was taken at the pre-council meeting; the rededication resolution will be introduced at the special meeting.
