CDD hears storm surge resilience briefing; board agrees to assist coordination

PSGRC General Manager Eric Long told the River Ridge CDD on Oct. 22 that the community faces increasing storm surge risks and needs a coordinated resilience plan involving multiple agencies.
Long described an action plan under development that would include an advisory or review panel and asked the CDD to designate a board representative and staff or engineering representatives to support coordination. He cited a hypothetical mapping exercise for "Hurricane Milton" that showed a 10–12-foot storm surge could have flooded an estimated 45%–55% of the community in that scenario.
District Counsel Tony Pires and Chair Bob Schultz discussed potential external funding sources and agency roles; the board reached consensus that Mr. Long and newly appointed Keith Merrill will assist and that District Engineer Charlie Krebs is authorized to help as needed.
Long said the likely timeline for addressing large-scale resilience measures could be a decade of coordinated planning and funding. The board’s commitment at this stage is to provide staff and a board point of contact to facilitate interagency coordination and planning work.
