Planning Commission approves site plan for Middleton Cardinals storage shed with conditions

The Middleton Planning Commission on June 9 approved a site plan for a storage shed for Middleton Cardinals Youth Football at 5280 Bishops Bay Parkway, with conditions that the organization bear all project and operational costs and that staff review final colors and aesthetics before installation.

Staff recommended approval with the requirement that design, permitting, construction, utilities and future maintenance be the responsibility of Middleton Cardinals Youth Football and that those terms be incorporated into a formal agreement with the city. Commissioner Randy Bruce moved to approve the site plan; the motion was seconded and carried.

During discussion commissioners asked about ownership, how the agreement would be recorded and whether the structure would include any exterior lighting. Staff representatives said the shed would be owned by Middleton Cardinals Youth Football and that the lease or agreement would be prepared by city staff (Kylie) and ultimately go to the Common Council for approval. Staff confirmed the building would include interior lighting only; exterior lighting was not proposed and would trigger additional review.

A commissioner successfully moved an amendment requiring staff to review the shed’s final colors and general aesthetics; the commission approved the amendment and then approved the site plan as amended.

Next steps

Staff will prepare the formal agreement and forwarding materials for Common Council action or final execution of the lease as required by city policy.
