The Board of Health approved a variance June 11 to replace a failed septic system at 6 Grouse Lane East for owner Claire Kimball, accepting a four-bedroom design that includes an Advantex IA alternative treatment tank.
Bob Reedy, engineer with JM O'Reilly and Associates (speaker 8), said the lot is in a Zone 2 environmentally sensitive area, is roughly 22,000 square feet and the house has been a four-bedroom dwelling since the 1970s. Reedy said he is not requesting any Title 5 variances but is seeking the 16b variance to local regulations. He described the Advantex IA as "considered by MassDEP to be 1 of the best available nitrogen reducing technologies" and explained how effluent is pumped into a pod with fabric media and adjustable sprayers to remove nitrogen.
A board member moved to approve the variance per the June 2 memorandum with referenced conditions; the motion was seconded and the board voted unanimously to approve.
