Covington County OKs purchase of two F-150s and authorizes ordering heavy chassis for road crew

Derek, speaking for the engineering department, said multiple vehicles have failed or are worn out and that two F-150s were needed "immediately" to maintain operations. He said a recent transmission failure left the department short of reliable crew vehicles and that other trucks have more than 250,000 miles.
Commissioners discussed procurement routes and timing. Staff said the trucks are available on state contract; the two F-150s were estimated at roughly $99,436 total and will be paid from the county general fund. The 550 cabin chassis must be ordered and may take 90–120 days for delivery; commissioners authorized placing that order now to reserve production slots.
The motion to purchase and to order the chassis passed after a second. Commissioners also asked staff to inventory existing fleet records and to verify whether some recently sold vehicles remained on internal lists so the county can better track vehicles and replacement needs.
Next steps: staff will complete purchase paperwork on the two F-150s from the state bid, place the order for the 550 chassis, and update the county fleet inventory.
