"A lot of these things... the most revealing map... is where the coastline was in the sixties, the seventies, the eighties," a staff member said, describing how the maps show retreat of the shore over time.
Separately, the committee recorded current nesting activity: "Rose Path has 8 nests — 2 active nests with eggs and 3 broods that recently hatched," the chair reported. Chapin Beach and the West End also have multiple pairs and recent hatchlings; staff said barricades at Chair 8 will go up to protect nests and that some beaches will remain closed or limited for protection. Staff emphasized that raking and other maintenance cannot proceed where nests are present to comply with state wildlife protections.
Committee members discussed neighbor‑led beach stewardship groups and the challenge of coordinating volunteer efforts and formal management. Members asked staff to publicize closures and barricade locations to reduce public confusion and to coordinate with Natural Resources on enforcement and timing.
