Board authorizes drafting of resolution backing school resource officers amid funding uncertainty

Supervisor Gillespie moved to authorize the county administrator and county attorney to draft a resolution supporting continued funding for SRO positions in county schools; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. "I move that we authorize our county administrator, county attorney to draft a resolution in support of SRO positions remaining in school and and remaining, funded," the motion recorded.
The board asked the sheriff to meet with Richmond officials and requested that staff prepare draft resolution language for board review; the item may return to the October or November meeting for follow-up depending on legislative developments. No local funding commitment to replace state grants was made at the Sept. 10 meeting; supervisors noted they would evaluate options if grant funding is not continued.
