Board to draft letter supporting PBS-linked documentary by Tazewell Class of '73 foundation

Deborah Wilson, who said she produced a documentary about her high-school class and has been approached by PBS Appalachia, asked the board for a letter of support that would help the project's underwriting and county participation. "What I'm asking for today and then what I ask for my DA is a letter of support," Wilson told the board during a lengthy presentation on the project's history, reach and potential economic value.
Wilson described local and regional interest in preserving the project's footage and noted positive responses from PBS and the Virginia Historical Society. Board members commended the work and moved to authorize the county administrator to draft a letter of support to be provided to the foundation; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Supervisors asked Wilson to draft proposed language for the letter to expedite staff review and turnaround.
The action authorizes staff to prepare the requested letter; it does not commit county funds to underwriting or production. Wilson said local underwriting and outside gifts are part of the proposal and that she has solicited private contributions as part of an underwriting package.
