Board approves landfill change order and $10,000 leachate-tank inspection

Supervisor Dunford updated the board Sept. 10 on construction and operations at the county landfill, including a contractor request for a $2,109 increase to cover additional casing and footage for a monitoring well. "They had asked for an increase of $2,109 because it took them extra casing to put the well in," Dunford said; the board voted to approve the additional payment.
Dunford also told the board the landfill's leachate tank has not been inspected in many years and recommended a full inspection and, if necessary, cleaning and valve replacement. "We're asking for $10,000 to do an inspection on the leachate tank," he said, adding the estimate would include draining, cleaning and any incidental repairs. During discussion members confirmed the $10,000 covered inspection and a cushion for cleaning or valve replacement.
The board approved both actions by voice vote. Members noted the county will coordinate any further needed repairs and may seek minor additional funds if costs exceed the estimate. No litigation or contract termination decisions were taken at the meeting; the actions are limited to the approved additional payment and the inspection authorization.
