Tri-Township leaders report testing, literacy coaching gains and outreach plans

School leaders used the Oct. 28 Tri-Township board meeting to report recent student assessments, early literacy coaching results and planned family outreach.
Principal McMahan told the board that grades 8–11 completed the PSAT and that grades 3–7 and 6–7 completed iLearn checkpoint testing. He reported that senior students met with representatives from PNW and Ivy Tech to discuss college and career options.
McMahan outlined the district's literacy coach work led by Mrs. O'Hare. The coach conducts a pre-assessment, models two days of instruction for classroom teachers, co-teaches follow-up lessons and then administers post-assessments. The minutes record measurable gains: one group moved from 66% meeting or exceeding targets to 95% after the coaching cycle; another moved from 43% to 93%. McMahan said coaching cycles are active in five classrooms and that teachers receive weekly check-ins.
Superintendent Dr. Moore described results from an entry-plan listening survey and next steps for communication and outreach. The survey results the minutes record show 62% of respondents feel welcome and 79% rate safety and security as good to excellent; communication scored below 50%, prompting planned changes. Moore said the district will add family email communication, run a billboard campaign on Highways 30 and 49 during November, explore a community newsletter and noted she will appear on "Soundoff" on Nov. 8. Moore also reported facilities work: junior/senior restrooms and LC locker rooms are complete, and administrators are assessing converting the barn into an athletic facility; she also noted the district plans to capture drone footage after track construction is finished.
The principal thanked staff, students and community partners for Scarecrow Fest activities, noting more than 30 additional race participants compared with the prior year, distribution of brownies to reach a 500-turkey goal and a Trunk-or-Treat event that handed out more than 200 hot dogs with 16 trunks participating.
The board acknowledged the reports and moved on to action items.
