Waynetown adopts temporary policy for weather‑shortened pool parties; approves July 18 Float Party setup

Aquatic Center Manager Haley Berninger said staff will offer the Float Party from 6:30–10:30 p.m. and requested time to prepare; the council approved closing the pool at 5 p.m. to allow setup (motion passed 4‑0). Berninger described two recent private bookings that were cut short by storms; Sandy Proctor, the clerk‑treasurer, said rental accounting in the payment system did not reflect the community room charge when swimmers were moved indoors due to lightning.

After discussion about fairness to renters and bookkeeping, the council approved two related motions: first, to affirm the manager’s handling of the recent incidents (no extra community room charge applied) and second, to adopt a standing rule that if a party is cancelled halfway through because swimming is disallowed for safety, the renter will be charged for one hour and given the community room at no additional charge (both motions passed 4‑0). The council asked staff to update the pool flyer and the payment procedure to reflect the clarified policy.

Other pool items noted during the meeting: two senior lifeguards recently became engaged (announced to the council) and staff plans to paint pickleball lines on the basketball court. The council also authorized payment practices related to pool operations that were discussed by the clerk‑treasurer.
