Tri-Township board approves safety MOU, special-education agreement, contracts and personnel hires

The Tri-Township Consolidated School Corporation Board of School Trustees on Nov. 25 approved a memorandum of understanding with the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, finalized a joint agreement with the South LaPorte County Special Education Cooperative and authorized several contracts and personnel actions.
Board action: The board approved the Sandy Hook Promise MOU and the joint special-education agreement by voice vote (recorded as "ALL AYES"). Aaron Rust made the motion to accept the Sandy Hook Promise MOU and Chad Howell seconded. Melanie Mills moved to approve the joint agreement with the South LaPorte County Special Education Cooperative and Chad Howell seconded. Minutes record each vote as ALL AYES.
Other approvals: The board also approved a contract with the Indiana ESC Food Co-op for food services and accepted a quote for EZrouting, a school bus routing software package; those motions were recorded in the meeting minutes as approved. The board accepted a $500 donation from Modern Woodmen designated as a match for the district music program.
Personnel actions: Under consent items, trustees approved certified and classified personnel moves. The board approved hiring Matt Wellsand as head 7th–8th grade boys basketball coach, Sam Weller as head 5th–6th grade boys coach and Allyson Stills as varsity assistant girls basketball coach. The board accepted the resignation of Allee Garner as Head Varsity Volleyball Coach (effective Nov. 6, 2024), approved hiring Morgan Wozniak as assistant 7th–8th grade boys basketball coach and approved moving Melissa Riba from substitute to permanent kitchen staff. Each personnel motion was made and seconded and recorded as ALL AYES.
Public question and staff response: A concerned citizen asked for clarification about the special-education joint agreement and the Sandy Hook Promise MOU; Dr. Moore provided the requested clarification during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
Next steps: The board did not set additional public hearings tied to these approvals at the Nov. 25 meeting. The next scheduled board meeting is Dec. 23, 2024.
