The Broken Bow City Council voted Oct. 12 to allow a final extension for repairs at the nuisance property located at 139 South 14th Avenue, setting a completion deadline of June 1, 2022, and requiring a signed agreement between the city and the property owner.
City Administrator Dan Knoell told the Council that he, Sergeant Shane Fiorelli and Councilmember David Schmidt inspected the property and found the owner had met some stipulations but that more work remained. Knoell recommended allowing one last extension with a contract signed by the property owner, City Attorney Jason White and the City Administrator to document completion requirements.
Property owner Greg Barker addressed the Council and listed the work he said he has completed, saying he had repaired the fire-damaged section and planned to start the addition. Barker asked the Council to grant a new building permit and a one-year extension to complete the house to his specifications.
On a motion by Jacob Holcomb, seconded by David Schmidt, the Council closed the public hearing at 6:20 p.m. and then approved a course of action that grants a final extension with a required signed document specifying the scope and deadline. Roll-call on the extension recorded Larry Miller, David Schmidt and Jacob Holcomb voting aye; there were no nays.
Next steps: the City Attorney and City Administrator are to finalize the written agreement with the property owner documenting required work and the June 1, 2022 completion date.
