Middletown committee approves permanent sign designs and awards security system contract for new middle‑high school

The Middletown School Committee voted June 18 to approve entry sign designs for the new Middletown Middle‑High School (MMHS) and two elementary schools, and to award the integrated electronic security and fire system for the middle‑high school project.

Committee members said the sign designs have been under discussion for months and emphasized the need to get the signs right because they are permanent. The approved design features precast concrete with raised (poured/engraved) letters and a wave motif; the Turner Road sign will include a secondary label recognizing the "Godae Sports Complex."

The committee also approved an award of the MSHS integrated electronic security system to National Security Fire Alarm Systems. Committee members noted the town council had already approved the vendor contingent on the school committee's endorsement so as not to delay installation; the school committee approved the award by voice vote.

Members described the signs as precast concrete with engraved letters and discussed double‑sided placement at Turner Road and building entry points. One member characterized the signage process as one of the more challenging aspects of the building project because of the permanent nature of the installations.

Both the signage approvals and the security system award were presented by district staff and discussed briefly by committee members; the meeting did not include additional design changes after approval.
