Rail Trail 5K draws 102 registrants; Granville sets five-week summer swim program

Village Clerk-Treasurer Rick Roberts reported on community programming during the June 2 Village Board meeting: the 14th annual Rail Trail 5K drew 102 registrants and 73 finishers amid poor weather, and the board announced a summer swim program for 2025.
Roberts thanked new Race Director Cristina Marchese and the DPW and Police Department for event support, and he thanked former race director Kerri Thomas for past service. The clerk said registration for the swim program is online; the program will run five weeks, Monday through Thursday, with a sixth week reserved to make up weather cancellations. Busing will transport participants to Lake St. Catherine State Park and back. The swim program is intended for youth ages 8–12, instructors work under a certified coordinator, and local youth may participate at no charge.
Mayor Paul Labas noted increased use of Mettowee Park — including pickleball courts and volleyball lawn space — and announced that a Veterans Park sign has been installed to promote the Summer Concert Series, scheduled to begin July 3.
No budget changes or additional appropriations for these programs were recorded at the June 2 meeting.
