Granville approves summer concert schedule, July 3 fireworks and hires summer swim coordinator

The Village Board of Granville approved multiple seasonal items at its April 7 meeting, including the 2025 Summer Concert Series schedule, a July 3 fireworks display, a six-week spring leaf and brush collection, and the hiring of a summer swim coordinator.
Mayor Paul Labas reviewed the concert lineup, which begins Thursday, July 3 and runs through Thursday, August 28, noting several new acts and two local performers. The board approved the concerts and the Clerk acknowledged a $3,500 grant from the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC) to support the series. Separately, the board approved a fireworks display for July 3 at dusk after noting permission from the Granville Little League and co-sponsorship from the Town; the Clerk will coordinate permitting with Washington County Code Enforcement.
Public works items approved included a spring leaf and brush collection beginning the following Monday for six weeks through May 19, with leaves required to be bagged in clear or brown paper bags and brush bundled to 4 feet or less. The board also authorized the DPW Superintendent to pursue purchase of wind screens for the pickleball court fencing per the Village procurement policy following user feedback about wind and sun exposure; trustees noted concerns about potential vandalism but approved pursuit of the screens.
After an executive session on DPW contract negotiations, the board returned to regular session and voted unanimously to hire Sophie Estes as Summer Swim Program Coordinator at a salary of $3,000, contingent on her obtaining lifeguard certification. The board adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
