Lotus Bermudez, a master ceramist and co-owner of 3rd Coast Clay, described the studio as "the largest minority and artist owned and run community clay studio in the city of Houston," outlined outreach and scholarship work and asked the city for help connecting to nonprofits and programming partners. Her husband, Tino Bermudez, said the studio seeks partnerships with other organizations and the city to grow ceramics instruction and community access.
Olivia Verdi urged the committee to consider people experiencing homelessness in arts outreach. "I think that it would be wonderful if through the lens of art, we were able to incorporate the homeless community," she said, suggesting shuttle-supported museum nights, street-level performance opportunities and programs that reduce transportation and cost barriers.
Council staff offered to collect contact information and connect the speakers with council and nonprofit partners. The committee thanked the commenters for concrete suggestions on expanding arts access.
