Farragut planning commission appoints high school junior as youth representative

Pinchock noted that the outgoing youth representative, Albert Lou, “has done a really good job” and introduced Jyn, whose application and letter of recommendation were included in the meeting packet. Jyn is a junior at Farragut High School and told the commission she has a strong desire to be involved in town planning.
Commissioners discussed involving Jyn in the town’s comprehensive land-use plan update and encouraged her to recruit a student representative group to give youth perspectives during the yearlong planning process. Staff said the youth representative position has sometimes been extended for a second year if the student wishes to continue.
The motion to appoint Jyn carried unanimously. The commission’s next steps will be to integrate the youth representative into outreach for the comprehensive plan work now beginning.
