The Planning Commission unanimously approved a public project review for Taylor Family Park, a town-owned mini-park proposed for 252 Wild Horse Road.
Principal Planner Bridal Eber told the commission the park was identified in the town's 2020 parks master plan and would include low-impact trails, interpretive signage honoring the McKnight and Taylor families, a small playground with a fishing theme, a pavilion and parking. Eber said the property contains wetlands and staff will pre-treat runoff before it reaches those areas.
During public comment, Nell Barnwell Hay, a 5th-generation Gullah Geechee woman, praised the park concept and asked whether the project would affect local taxes; staff asked for contact information and said staff would follow up with a direct response. After brief discussion, Commissioner Lobel moved to find the project consistent with the comprehensive plan and advance it; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
What happens next: Staff will incorporate any public comments and forward the final materials for implementation as part of the town's capital improvements planning and project delivery process.
