Board urges county to speed up generator and ballistic-window projects, citing staff safety concerns

Mr. Ford (speaker 5) and other commissioners stressed frustration that the generator project has been on the county’s capital-improvement project list for years and that a bid-close date of June 30 was referenced in earlier email correspondence; board members said delays make it difficult to test a dedicated unit and to assure staff safety. Director Wendell Robertson (speaker 8) said temporary generators are supplied for every election but that a dedicated, permanently installed generator would permit regular testing and greater reliability.
Several members said ballistic-resistant windows had been identified as a security need by the Department of Homeland Security and asked staff to escalate both projects. Chair (speaker 2) proposed drafting a letter from the board to County Administrator Moore requesting updates and advocacy; he said he would prepare a draft for review at the next meeting. The board also asked staff to provide a project timeline update at the next meeting.
No procurement decisions were made at the meeting; the board instead directed staff to work with county risk-management and CIP staff and to report back.
