Waterbury schools announce three leadership hires: pupil services, human capital and operations

The Waterbury Board of Education on June 18 welcomed three senior leadership appointments announced by Superintendent Dr. Schwartz.

Tracy Menzies, previously assistant director of pupil services, was introduced as the district's Director of Pupil Services. Menzies, speaking after her introduction, said she was "deeply grateful for your confidence in me, and I'm honored to step into this role with a full commitment to our students, families, and staff." She cited plans to strengthen in-district special education programs and expand the 18–22 transition program to provide community-based experiences and employment pathways for young adults.

Jen Marino was introduced as Director of Human Capital. Marino, who described more than a decade in the district rising from HR assistant to senior HR roles, said she felt "incredibly fortunate" to grow within the district and pledged to support staff through personnel management, employee relations and training.

Rebecca Gonzalez was announced as the incoming Chief Operating Officer and said that "strong operations create the foundation for student success," citing responsibilities that include facilities, transportation, nutrition services, security, custodial operations and long-term facility planning. Superintendent Schwartz said Gonzalez would begin in a few weeks and noted her experience in New Britain, Hartford and municipal positions.

Board members applauded each appointment. The superintendent also recognized outgoing COO Nick Albini and said the district would hold an event June 29 to honor his service.
