City of Auburn welcomes summer interns; Human Services intern recounts outreach work and recent housing placement

"We went to go see...there was human feces just like everywhere," she said, and recounted being approached with an offer to buy drugs while on outreach. She also said staff recently succeeded in getting a family housed: "On Friday, we just got a family housed." She added that interns are assigned a case manager role and may carry a housing case from intake toward placement.
Kylie O'Donnell, the communications intern, described shadowing members of the communications team, producing a small business spotlight for Raj’s Kitchen and assisting with photography and video for city events. "It was super great," she said of the small business visit, adding that hands-on production opportunities are a key part of her internship.
Glover and Pagosian emphasized on‑the‑job learning and team support. Narina praised the Human Services staff for emotional and logistical support during difficult outreach work and said her team checks needs such as food and basic household supplies when they assist newly housed families.
The episode underscores the city’s use of internships to provide practical public‑sector experience in both direct social‑services outreach and municipal communications. The hosts said interns will continue to participate in community events and program work through the summer; Narina noted interns typically present or complete a project near the end of their internship period in mid‑August.
