The commission voted July 15 to authorize the city attorney to initiate proceedings under Chapter 54 of the Texas Local Government Code to abate a substandard residential structure located at 808 North Ripley Street.
Director Howard told the commission the property has been the subject of notices for about four years and has been vacant for approximately six years. Staff described the Chapter 54 process as a tool the city has used previously for similar downtown and neighborhood properties and said it has resulted in successful abatement in those cases.
After a brief staff explanation, the commission moved, seconded and adopted a resolution authorizing the legal proceedings. No additional fiscal detail was provided during the discussion.
Staff will proceed with the Chapter 54 filing as authorized and will return to the commission with progress reports, as required by city procedure.
