Sullivan Fire & Rescue asks Selectboard for ordinance to enable third‑party reimbursement, roof repairs and EMS contract talks

SULLIVAN, Maine — Sullivan Fire & Rescue Chief Pinkham submitted a written report at the Oct. 1 Selectboard meeting and asked the board to consider adopting an ordinance before the town contracts with Fire Recovery USA so the department can pursue reimbursement for responses to non‑residents.
"An ordinance is needed before we contract with Fire Recovery USA," Chief Pinkham told the board, explaining the legal basis is required to authorize third‑party billing and reimbursement for services rendered outside town limits.
Pinkham also reported a rise in medical calls during September and asked the board to approve roof repairs at Fire Station 1. He said he hopes to use high‑school carpentry students and volunteers to reduce labor costs so expenditures would be limited to materials.
He added that Sullivan EMS is currently backing up Northern Light for calls in Sorrento; EMS Chief Daley and the fire chief are working to arrange a meeting with Northern Light to negotiate contract adjustments.
The Selectboard did not enact a reimbursement ordinance on Oct. 1; Chief Pinkham was instructed to return with recommended ordinance language and any required fiscal analysis.
