The Sullivan Parks & Recreation Committee accepted the resignation of committee member Velma Thomas "with regret" and turned to planning for next year’s Sullivan Days festival.
Committee members reported that Sullivan Days ended $437 ahead this year. Yvette Grindle said she will send solicitation letters on Monday, Sept. 9, to about 75 companies asking for $100 sponsorships each to be listed as event sponsors. She intends to exclude Hammond and Viking Lumber from that mailing because the two are being asked separately to help with the planned skate park. Yvette said she is coordinating the solicitation effort with Erin, Misty, Ray and Judy and that sponsorships could also be used to buy a new soundboard and to cover the band for 2025.
Bonnie Sparks suggested exploring grant funding for a new sound system, including partnering with Age Friendly on a multi-generational grant that could cover a PA/sound system and related projects.
The committee discussed the possibility of making Sullivan Days a year-round, independent entity to broaden volunteer recruitment and reduce reliance on existing town volunteers. Bonnie offered to speak with Ray about organizational options.
The committee recorded the acceptance of Velma Thomas’s resignation as official business and reviewed the Sullivan Days final financials. The solicitation letters and any grant applications are next steps identified by members.
