Select Board accepts resignation, elects Norman Bamford as chair and schedules special election

Norman Bamford, a Select Board member, called the Aug. 12 meeting to order and the board accepted Reginald Mean’s letter of resignation. Erin Shanahan read Mean’s resignation aloud and Norman Bamford moved to accept it; Shanahan seconded and the motion passed 2–0.
After accepting the resignation, the board voted on a new chair. Bamford nominated himself; Shanahan seconded. The board briefly discussed whether the appointment should be labeled “interim” and decided instead to appoint Bamford without that qualifier. The nomination carried 2–0, making Bamford the board’s chair.
The board also voted to hold a special election to fill the remaining eight-month term for the open seat. Town Manager Ray Weintraub asked the board to schedule the election; Bamford moved to hold it on Nov. 5, 2024, with nominations opening Aug. 14 and closing Sept. 25. Shanahan seconded and the motion passed 2–0.
Next steps: the town will accept nominations during the stated window and hold the election on Nov. 5. No interim appointment beyond Bamford’s selection as chair was specified.
