Desha County Quorum Court adopts two ordinances in routine Feb. 25 meeting

The Desha County Quorum Court met Feb. 25, 2021, at the Desha County Courthouse and approved two ordinances, accepted the January minutes and approved the treasurer’s report before adjourning.

County Clerk Valerie Donaldson read Ordinance 2021-2 (Appropriation Budget) in full. Justice of the Peace Gene Weser moved to suspend the rules and allow the ordinance to be read by title only for a second reading; JP7 Ronnie Norris seconded and the roll call was unanimous. For the third reading, Joe James moved to accept Ordinance 2021-2 and G. Lynn Weatherford seconded. The roll call returned eight votes in favor and one against (Patricia Watkins). The ordinance passed 8–1.

Donaldson also read Ordinance 2021-3 in full. Weser moved to suspend the rules to allow a second reading by title only; Norris seconded and the roll call was unanimous. Weser then moved to accept Ordinance 2021-3, with Norris seconding; the court voted 9–0 to adopt the ordinance.

Earlier in the meeting, Justice of the Peace G. Lynn Weatherford moved to approve the January minutes as mailed; JP9 Norris Sims seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Gene Weser moved to approve the treasurer’s report, seconded by Dollie Wilson; that motion also passed without opposition.

Justice of the Peace Gene Weser moved to adjourn; JP7 Ronnie Norris seconded and the meeting adjourned. The minutes were prepared and attested by County Clerk Valerie Donaldson; the record bears the signature line of Desha County Judge Richard Tindall.

The meeting recorded no items under Old Business and included no extended debate or public comment on the ordinances.
