The Smith-Green Community Schools Board of Education approved a $17,414 common school loan at its Dec. 15, 2025, meeting to replace aging staff laptops and to purchase audiovisual equipment for a district presentation room.
A staff presenter told the board the State Board approved the loan application Dec. 10 and the district seeks to use the funds to purchase 95 staff laptops (the district’s current laptops are five years old and go out of warranty in January) and to install a 120-inch projector and screen in room 134. “Our current laptops…are out of warranty in January. They’re 5 years old and they are showing their age,” the presenter said.
Board members moved and seconded a motion to approve the common school loan purchase; the chair called for those in favor and the motion was approved (tally not specified in the transcript).
Administrators also briefed the board on a planned replacement of the district phone system. Mr. Krider and staff reported the district selected a cloud phone vendor called Goto; installation is planned for June, and administrators said the upfront cost is expected to come from a safety grant. The presenter described the district’s current phone system as “about 15 years old and obsolete” and said the new system will include desktop phone apps, instant messaging and Teams integration.
The board approved the annual mileage reimbursement rate under policy 6550 and chose to stay aligned with the state rate at 49 cents per mile; a motion to approve the rate was made and carried (vote tally not recorded in the transcript).
Board members also set the January reorganization meeting for Jan. 5 at 6:30 p.m., noting the statutory requirement to hold a reorganization meeting by Jan. 15. The board conducted a first reading of a policy (no action required) and adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
