Silver Lake council approves $138,844.37 claim docket, amends salary ordinance and tables Fugate determination

The Silver Lake Town Council on April 8 approved a series of routine administrative actions, including a claim docket totaling $138,844.37, adoption of an amendment to the 2026 salary ordinance, and authorization of two leak adjustments for utility customers.
Consultant Tyler Coffel of Baker Tilly gave the council the town’s annual water and sewer cash-flow reports; Coffel noted a written summary is on file in the Clerk-Treasurer’s office. The council then handled routine business: approval of the March 11 meeting minutes; adoption of Ordinance 04-01-26 (an amendment to the 2026 salary ordinance); and approval of the claim docket for $138,844.37 (motions carried unanimously by members present).
The council also tabled a Fugate determination because the Fugates were not present. Town Attorney C. Austin Rovenstine said he was not sure whether the Fugates had received notice; the council directed Rovenstine to send a letter and voted to extend and re-hear the matter at the next meeting (motion by Jean Weller; second by Nichole Taylor; motion passed).
On utility billing, the council approved leak adjustments: Smith qualified for a water adjustment of $148.45 and a sewer adjustment of $98.88; Wideman qualified for a sewer adjustment of $32.41 and no water adjustment. The council also recorded department updates: Marshal Jason McGlennen reported that Kole completed his first year and is now a merit officer and that both will attend state-mandated training; Street Department Head Joey McNeal announced hydrant flushing scheduled for April 20–24 (postponed if it rains); and Fire Department Head John Conley noted seven runs to date and upcoming fundraising events including a golf outing on June 28 and an auction in early May.
Other calendar items: a Center bid-opening is scheduled for April 28 at 5:00 p.m. at Silver Lake Town Hall, and the council’s next regular meeting is May 13 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
