Council agrees to split Columbia St. repaving cost with resident; discusses Eldora Drive flooding

The Silver Lake Town Council agreed to pay half of a $9,990 Super Seal quote to repave an extension of Columbia St. leading to resident Nick Gordon’s driveway and authorized Council President Medard (Hugh) Murfin to sign a cost-share agreement.
Gordon presented a map and a property survey and provided the $9,990 quote. Nichole Taylor moved that the council pay 50 percent of the quoted cost; Medard Murfin seconded, called all in favor and the motion carried. Nichole Taylor then moved to allow Murfin to sign the agreement without a special meeting; Murfin seconded and the motion carried. Town attorney Austin Rovenstine will prepare the agreement.
Separately, the council discussed flooding complaints on Eldora Drive where property owners reported lake water flowing onto the street. Council members noted the county commissioners technically own the street and discussed whether IDNR dam renovations could have worsened the problem. Town Superintendent Joe outlined an expensive paving option to mitigate the issue; council directed staff or a council member to consult county commissioners about sharing costs. No formal paving motion was recorded.
