Council backs Hohman Excavating quote for Shutt Ave boat launch once outside funding is secured

Herb Manifold of Ecosystems Connections Institute, LLC presented three bids to upgrade the Shutt Ave boat launch and told the council that diesel-driven price increases have pushed project costs higher.
Contractor quotes provided were: I-Tech Builders $35,000; Lawson, Inc. $37,800; Hohman Excavating $23,840. Tonya Conley said the town can contribute $20,000 from the community center project allocation and that additional donations will be needed to cover the balance. Brett Burch indicated the Silver Lake Foundation is willing to help and planned to work with council members on fundraising. Medard (Hugh) Murfin donated $500, and Jason Shelton said he would approach citizens and businesses for contributions.
Herb recommended a mid-July start if the council approves; he noted the DNR permit for the site is valid until 2028. Nichole Taylor moved to accept the Hohman Excavating quote contingent upon receipt of all funding; Murfin seconded, called all in favor and the motion carried.
No contract was executed at the May 13 meeting; the acceptance is conditional on funding being secured.
