Smith-Green board schedules Oct. 27 public hearing on 2026 CPF plan, approves latch-key agreement and fundraisers

The Smith-Green Community Schools board approved its consent agenda Aug. 18, authorizing two student fundraisers, approving a latch-key child-care agreement and directing staff to advertise a public hearing on the district's 2026 Capital Projects Fund (CPF) plan.
At the meeting the chair and staff presented proposed fundraisers: a girls flag football donation/sale day on Aug. 14 and a high school band fundraiser Nov. 3'14. The board moved to approve the consent agenda and the chair called for a voice vote.
Staff also asked the board to approve a one-year latch-key agreement with "Chair Bus Community Child Care Center" covering an August-through-June term as described to the board. A motion to approve the latch-key agreement was made during the meeting.
Separately, staff requested approval to file "Form 3," granting permission to advertise a public hearing on the 2026 CPF plan, which the presenter described as covering the bus replacement plan, the operations fund, the education fund, the debt service fund and the rain fund. The presenter said the hearing was planned for Oct. 27 and that the notice must be advertised at least 10 days before the hearing. The board authorized the advertising motion as presented.
Why it matters: The CPF and related fund advertisements set the timeline for public input on capital projects and major budget items, including vehicle replacement and debt-service planning. The latch-key agreement finalizes childcare arrangements the district said will run through the school year.
